Academic Showcase

This art work was done as a mandala in Art class. There was a lot of shading and it really took me a long time to make it smooth. This picture was one of the finest art work I ever done and I got full mark in this project.

This is a Social test of Term Three. I got 61/70. I have never got a higher mark in this subject.

Here is a science quiz. I got 29/30. It was a high mark among all my quizzes.

It is an article that I wrote during an English class. It was marked by Mr. Pinny. It is the highest mark I ever got in this course.

Here is a weekly diary that I wrote for Mandarin. It is highly appreciated by my Chinese teacher, Mr. Yao. This article is talking about cheating.

This is Superpen! This picture was taken when we were doing the happy trash. It took us really a long time and all of us put a lot of effort in it. Finally, we did a good job in this subject, and got the highest mark in Planning.

Here is PE class. On April 23rd, at about 9.30am, I was doing gymnastic with Selina in the gym of Nanjing Normal University. I was really good at this.

This Video is for Math. It shows how Math is used in daily life. This Math Project took our group member a lot of time and effort and we got a very good mark.

Fashion Show

On April 27th, there was a Fashion Show held by GCA at the courtyard. Before this big event happened, many GCA students had designed and made clothes for their models that would be on the stage of the show.
I was one of the models. Our group designed a dress for me. Its length was from shoulders to the knees. The dress was covered with black and white lines, just like a zebra. The whole dress was loose and comfortable and the collar was wide. It was the style of clothes that I like. I wore a belt around my waist in order to clearly show the depth of the dress. I also wore a pair of heeled shoes which matched my clothes well
It was a big day. Many students and teachers dressed in beautiful clothes. Also, a lot of audience came to see the show. I was really nervous before the show began. I was afraid of making mistakes while walking through the stage or other students did not like my clothes. Then, the model teacher from Grade 12 told us not to care how others thought about us and always be proud of ourselves. That really gave me some courage.
The show began at 6.30pm. We lined up after the curtain at the entrance of the stage. Models got on the stage one by one and soon it was my turn. I was so nervous that I forgot the first pose at the very beginning. I realized that immediately and tried to calm down in the following steps. The heeled shoes did not fit my feet that they nearly dropped off. I thought I had heard people talking about the big shoes. I managed not to care about them and kept going with my style.
Finally, I did it. I had never imagined showing on the stage in front of a lot of people. It was my first time to act in a performance alone like this. I thought I had got confident enough to show myself and I would be better later in GCA life.

Volunteer work at Beijing East Road Primary and Parents' Meeting

My log

All Marketing Members

At the primary school

The student I taught and me

On April 1st, all my classmates went to Beijing East Road Primary School to teach the students there as volunteers. They were Grade 5 students and what we need to do was to help them review the lessons and teach them something new in English.
We got to the primary school at about 3pm. Ms. Bartell spared one or two students to each of us which meant we were responsible for the students we taught. I got a girl. She looked quiet and pure. Firstly, I asked her to read the dialogues on her book. She could read them correctly. However, like Ms. Bartell said, she sounded like a robot. Then I decided to teach her how to pronounce more naturally. After this, I helped her review the next unit she was going to learn and go over the vocabularies. Later I taught her some countries, people of the countries and their languages. It was useful that she would need them in further study of English. The last part was to let her introduce herself in English. She was quite shy so that I gave her an example of myself. I really tried to make her speak as much as possible.
That was a chance for me to learn how to communicate with younger people and how to teach them. I could understand that it was not easy to be a teacher. Teachers not only needed the ability to teach, but also had the responsibilities for students. Before I started, I felt quite upset and I could not make sure what I said was too easy or too difficult to understand. I wanted her to talk to me all in English, but I was afraid that she might not have enough vocabularies. After I knew about their class, I saw that not everyone could speak like GCA students did. From this I knew that teachers should give more chance to students to speak English in class, especially in primary school.
Besides this, I also did some volunteer work in Parents’ Meetings as a member of Marketing Team. every time there was a Parents’ Meeting, we Marketing members would have a busy time. What we needed to do was to lead the parents to the meeting room and tell them where the classrooms were. Sometimes we were required to wear suits. Parents always had a lot of questions to ask, and we often answered the same question for many times. Also, we should be ready to face parents at any time, so we did not have time to take a break and we had to stand during the whole meeting.
It was not a easy job. Parents always wanted to know more about the environment that their children were studying in. We needed to be patient enough to deal with them. In spite of this, I still learnt a lot. After several times of work, I mastered the skill of communicating with different kinds of people, especially strangers. I knew how to behave correctly in different situations and it would probably useful later in my life.

In the performance

December 19th 2008, most GCA students went to see the wonderful performance called “The taming of the shrew”, also included in me. It performed at the third floor of the cafeteria and started at 19:00pm. I went with Giselle at 18:30pm and waited outside until we were allowed to enter. This performance was written by the famous writer, William Shakespeare, and now it was played by the students in GCA Drama Club. Because of this, I decided to have a look. It should be interesting.
The taming of the shrew” was telling about how a man controls his wife. It was written by William Shakespeare. The story started with a drunk, Sly, dreamt about a lord and his pages performing a play for him at an inn.
There was a woman, Kate, who was the shrew going to get a husband. Most men were frightened about Kate. At that time, Lucentio fell love with Kate’s sister, Bianca. The other day, Petruchio tried to find a wife and he visited Kate. Kate hated him but Petruchio decided to marry him. During the night they got married, Petruchio used his talent to tame the shrew, and Kate became gentler and gentler. At the same time, Lucentio and Bianca got married, too. When both of the couples came back to home to attend a grand party, the men bet whose wife would obey their orders, there was no one except Kate.
As the ending, the inn hostess wanted to know about the story of Taming of the Shrew.
I really liked this play. It was the first big show I saw in GCA. All the characters vividly showed the characteristics in that show. We could see that they put a lot of effort into it and showed the best side of their English skill. Their performing talent was much more than I thought and surprised me a lot. From this story, I could see that anything or anybody could be tamed—even someone like Kate, crazy and grumpy. There was nothing I was disappointed with in this play, I only could wish the next play would be as good as this one.
